Williams wall suspension...

Pat and Kevin Williams have officially been suspened for the remaining 4 games of the regular season for testing positive for a banned diruretic that masks steroid use. The issue here is that the illegal diuretic is found in a weight loss pill that both Williams claim to have been using to make weight requirements. The weight loss pill, however, does not state in the ingredients that this illegal substance is contained in the product. The Williams claim they were unaware that they had taken the illegal substance. While the suspension is official, the Williams may file for an injuction to delay the suspensions, possibly until the beginning of next year which obviously would help the Vikings chances of making the playoffs.

My question is...Do you believe the Williams were taking the illegal diruetic to mask steroid use or to cut weight? If the latter, do you feel 4 games is the appropriate punishment for unknowingly taking an illegal subtance (which mind you has absolutely no affect on performance)?

I'm kindof on the fence on this one, but I'm going to say they were not using steroids.

As far as the 4 game suspension, this seams a bit excessive to me, especially for 1st time offenders. If what they claim is true, what were they supposed to do...run their own chemical tests on the diet pills to make sure there was nothing illegal in them that wasn't listed in the ingredients? I think the NFL needs to make an exception in this case if there is a way to prove that the Williams had indeed taken the diet pills.

I do not think they were using steroids. Players have weight clauses in their contracts that they were trying to meet. It is a common thing on every NFL team.

I think I trust the Vikes defense to make the necessary adjustments. I'd be more worried if two offensive linemen got suspended...

My question is always why do players decide the pills they put in their body. Why can't that be a team employee. Wait until you get to the field to take your crap for the day. But this isn't a real brain-busting idea so I suppose there's a good reason they don't.

Squints, my guess is that the team wouldn't want them taking diuretics anyways...all it will do is dehydrate them so they lose water weight. And we definately don't want another Korey Stringer. I'm sure the team didn't know they were taking the pills.

i think they knew what they were doing. Regardless, you get paid to use your body like a machine, you need to know everything that goes into it. If they say no peanuts, you better be asking the in-laws about every ingredient in every dish and still proceed with caution. I agree with squints. Every team should have their own pharmacist to avoid this exact situation.

teams do have their own nutritionists that do monitor what players are putting into their body. i don't think its a secret that players use these types of substances. maybe the team didn't prescribe it, but i'm sure someone in the training room knew they were taking it.

i think it is asking a little much for players to know what substances are in pills when they aren't on the label. when you read a label on any product do you automatically start thinking of things they forgot to list? i doubt it. someone other than the williams boys should be getting in trouble for this.

it wasn't on the list.
it wasn't on the label.
the hotline was unavailable.

what else does a guy have to do?

why was the hotline down? sounds shady.

why were they calling the hotline if they found this product to be legit? sounds fishy in itself. If you aren't sure, don't eat it. I learned that at a young age. No chinese food for me...
