Punto is Mr. Intangible. He does things that statistics can't measure. The guy dives into first base...he plays twins small ball baseball..and you can't knock his defense.
Honestly I am surprised how much they paid him and that they didn't find someone else. They do need runs.
I'm surprised at the four million per year also, but hes a good guy to have on the roster. I also was a little surprised at how often is name was rumored to have interest from other teams. Now to find a 3B...
i would love to have punto on my team....as a utility guy.
everyone keeps talking about the twins needing runs, but they were something like 4th in the league last year in runs scored.
i say the twins need bullpen help. guys that can get to nathan. is neshek, or however you spell that goofy ass's name, gonne be back and ready to roll next season?
I'm fine with the Punto signing. I like his defense at SS and his aggressiveness all around. However, we need him to hit like last year and not like '07 when I booed him at the Metrodome (for which I received dirty looks from the fans sitting in front of me)
Neshek is done for all of this year. When he hurt his arm last year, he opted for conservative treatment and didn't go under the knife for Tommy John surgery. During the rehab process he re-tore his ulnar collateral ligament and has now decided for surgery that will leave him out for next season. If he opted for surgery to begin with, he would have likely only missed the first month or two for this season.
Now the Twins need to upgrade at 3rd and in the bullpen. None of the names that pop up at third really intrigue me. I don't want Kouzmanoff or Ty Wiggington. Garret Atkins would be OK, but rumor had it that the Rockies were asking for both Slowey and Span which is ridiculous. Beltre from Seattle has the Twins on his no trade list. I'd like to see all 5 of our starters from last year back. If we could trade a prospect or two for some bullpen help, I would be OK with the Buscher/Harris platoon 3rd. I think Boof will emerge as our 7th inning guy this year. Mijares was good last year, but he is young and will likely experience a few bumps in the road this year. If we could find a reliable 8th inning guy, we may be set.
1. Naps is in charge here. He breaks the rules when it is necessary. Don't reference the rules after things he's posted. If he broke one, it's more than likely because you said something stupid.
2. While racial slurs and shots at people's sexual preference can be funny, use them sparingly. We do like to sound somewhat intelligent here.
3. This is a blog about sports played by other people. No one cares how well you golfed last weekend.
4. Don't start consecutive posts for topics that are closely related. (e.g. Don't write about Livan Hernandez in one post then start a new post five minutes later whining about Mike Lamb.)
5. New posts are for new topics. Don't bring up old issues.

I'll let this slide only if the Twins add pop somewhere in the lineup.
We're going to need the .280ish Nick Punto and not the .215ish Nick Punto.
