Comin'

Yankees made a common sense signing today, by finally reeling in big Mark Teixeira. After buying out the Giambino, they picked up Swisher who is better suited for the slow yankee outfield. While this may not be popular, it made sense. Is Manny next? I hope not.

When will the Yankees learn that money does not buy championships in professional baseball anymore?

Remember what Mussina and Abreu did for them last year. If you think about it, the net gain of their three major free agency signings is not that great - even assuming they all stay healthy.

I'm not much of a stat head and I don't feel like doing any sort of statistical analysis, now that it is 5:00am, but I see it this way:

They've lost Abreu, Giambi, and Mussina and picked up CC, AJ, and Teixeira. Not a huge swing in the talent pool, in my opinion.

Really naps? I see it that they've gained a ton. Teix is a stud...gonna hit over 300 with 30+ bombs and drive in a ton of runs all while playing gold glove caliber defense. Huge upgrade over Giambi (lower salary than Giambi too).

Mussina had a career year last year, but its pretty clear that either Sabathia or Burnett is an upgrade there.

Abreu might be their biggest loss, but Xavier Nady will be solid as a replacement in right field.

Overall, they lose one bat, and gain one starting pitching, but I think their lineup and rotation are both better than last year.

I'm very scared of the Yanks...right now, I don't see how any other team is going to compete with them.

As far as Manny goes, I don't see how it would hurt to have him. Stick him in as a DH and you have an already REDiculous lineup that just got substantially more dangerous.

Nady = injury prone

Burnett = injury prone

Teixeira = .290 career hitter and overrated defensively

Mussina = still didn't get them into the playoffs while having a career year. that is my point. CC is not a major upgrade from what Mussina did last year

CC = never going to do what he did with Milwaukee. ever.

Bullpen = still stinks other than Rivera

I agree that the Yanks are better than last year...but not THAT much better.

I agree, Sabathia's performance with the Brewers will probably not happen again, but he was a Cy Young winner with Cleveland and is clearly one of the top pitchers in baseball. Burnett eats up a ton of innings and has shutout type stuff when he is healthy. Both of these guys are going to pitch 200 plus innings which will help out the weak bullpen.

Don't be hating on Teix cuz your Angels couldn't re-sign him...

i'm just going to enjoy it even more than usual when the angels knock the yanks out of the playoffs again this year.

i prefer when the yankees are better than the red sox. the halos are yankee killers but are an embarassment when they see boston in the post season.

The difference here is that the Yankees have finally figured out you don't win with old crappy pitchers and a crapton of great position players. So they went and got good young pitchers and a crapton of great position players. Fear the Yanks, my friends, fear the Yanks.

i wouldn't call cc or aj "young." they're just younger than pettite and mussina.

i aint skurred 'a no darn yankees.

proposterous prediction: halos over yanks in 6 in ALCS.

I would call that REDiculously proposterous.
