You want better options aside from Mauer (who was nearly out-vote by Varitek)? Here:
Pierzynski, Navarro, Suzuki, Rodgriguez, Hernandez, etc.
He bats seventh in the lineup while playing four out of five days because he is unable to catch a knuckle ball. It's called practice.
He is such a good catcher? Wrong. 83%. Thats the percentage of base runners success whilest stealing. Take that "C" off your jersey. It now stands for "Cweer"

I think it's time for MLB to tweak the All-Star balloting. The starting line-ups are filled with Yanks, Sox, and Cubbies every year. Some of those guys are deserving, but during some years there are more qualified guys to play in the game. A-Rod, Jeter, Manny, etc. are grandfathered in every year. If you play an exhibition game that decides home field advantage in the World Series, the best players from each league need to be starting. My idea is to have the vote comprised of 40% fans, 30% players, and 30% writers. This way the fans still hold the majority of the vote, but it takes away some of the power from big market teams getting their guys voted into the game year in, year out.
I agree, Killah, but the thing is, Varitek was voted in by the players and coaches. So rediculous.
varitek was voted in by the players in an effort to block pierzynski's chances of making the team. they hate him just as much as everyone else. i agree the better player should make the team, but a.j. is the one exception.
is AJ so intolerable that they would choose to not have him around one day a year versus a clean conscience.
Fine, don't vote in AJ, but there were many better options other than Varitek as stated in chipper's original post.

the voted in varitek and not aj because it was between the two after the dumb ass fans had their chance to vote. i'm sure if it were simply up to the players that neither one would have made the team.
