Casilla to 15-day DL

Alexi Casilla was placed on the 15-day DL this morning due to a torn ligament in his right thumb suffered sliding into second base monday night against the White Sox. This is terrible news for the surging twinkies. The surprising Casilla is most definately liked with the Twins success over the last few months. His patience and speed offensively have made him an outstanding number 2 hitter and his defense has been very steady and spectacular at times. I'm hearing this could be a season ending injury, but I really hope that's not the case...would be a huge loss.

In the mean time, the Twins have activated Adam Everett and are saying he will play short with Punto moving over to second. Buscher and Harris will alternate at third.

I hope this injury doesn't kill the Twins momentum.

is it trade time?

Yes...we need to get another middle infielder. We can't be having Everett's .196 avg in the starting lineup every night. I think we also need a reliable set up guy, preferable left handed. Third base still is something that is of interest, but I think middle infield and relief are more important right now.

not too many decent options available around the infield, at least that the twins might go get. Twins might be more likely to do some waiver wire dealings. For the time being, I'd rather see Busher at third, Punto at short, and Harris at second. Everett is garbage.

Harris can't play second and Buscher can't hit lefties. On nights with right handed starters we can go busher at 3, harris at SS and Punto at 2. On lefty days, we're fucked unless we can get another middle infielder that can hit a little bit. I hear Miguel Tejada might be available, I'd take that.

Brian Roberts, Mark Grudzielanek?? I'd take either. Roberts would be huge, but we'd probably have to give up a player like Span or one of the young starting pitchers. Not sure I want to do that. This team is poised to do good things in the next few years. I think I might be ok with making a less expensive move and keeping the young talent intact for the future.

RedDog...Harris played second when Chrissy Everett was playing short at the beginning of the year. I don't think the twins will do anything...Tolbert should be off the DL in a couple of weeks. Hopefully we can live with Bucher at 3rd, Punto at short, and Harris at 2nd. Not knowing all the details of the injury, I would say a month would be an optimistic time table for Casilla to be back..

dawg,
teams have to be willing to trade players for them to be on the market. i'd love to have a-rod on my team, but last time i checked, he wasn't for sale.

Killah, you don't remember Harris trying to turn double plays at 2nd? Well, he was brutal. Gardy knows it and believe me, he won't be a 2nd. What will we do on days where we face a lefty starter? Buscher is brutal against lefties.

Naps, both Roberts and Grudz had trade speculation surrounding them from what I have been reading, so don't assume I just picked two names out of a hat. Grudz is a definate possibility if we can convince KC to trade within their division.

I actually hearing the Twins are talking to the Giants about Rich Aurilia now as well.

harris was brought up as a 2B all through the minors.

Not that i agree, but Gardy will play Everett, Harris, and Punto against lefties. I also read about Harris not being able to turn double plays at 2nd, but I hate his range at short. Boof seems like the best trade bait we have. He is only 26 and could find better luck in the NL. I propose Boof, Lamb, and Everett for Chase Utley...

Livan, Cuddyer and a cash for Adrian Beltre. Bring up Liriano. Trade Beltre partway through the '09 season to drop his contract.
